The hubs provide an opportunity for public services, local business and the voluntary sector to create a new type of delivery that puts local people in the driving seat.
Community hubs in Thurrock are led by volunteers and are supporting access to public services, libraries, IT, and much more. Thurrock’s Stronger Together Partnership is supported by Thurrock CVS who have developed a truly innovative model.
The Project
The hubs provide an opportunity for public services, local business and the voluntary sector to create a new type of delivery that puts local people in the driving seat. This enables the local community to access services differently and allows local people to do more for themselves without relying on statutory provision. Mobilise was appointed to support the extension of Thurrock’s pioneering community hub programme in Purfleet.
Our Approach
Reaching out through local stakeholders and resident groups we were able to build interest in a steering group for the hub, developing a learning programme with a series of study visits and workshops before supporting them through the co-design of the Purfleet Community Hub.
Impact
Each hub or centre has its own activities and events, based on the needs of its community. Purfleet Community Hub is now one of seven hubs in Thurrock and houses a library, free to use computers, information and holds community fun days. They also have a number of local groups and organisations who pop in on a regular basis to support local residents.
