Mobilise worked closely with our team, undertaking research, making valuable connections in the charitable and voluntary sectors and organising high-quality events to conduct surveys and in depth focus groups with older homeowners.

London Rebuilding Society (LRS) is a not-for-profit social enterprise leading a partnership to deliver the Healthy Homes, Healthy Lives (HHHL) programme. The programme supports older homeowners who cannot afford to have their home improved. HHHL’s objective is to enable people to stay independent for longer and to offer choices as their circumstances change.

Mobilise designed a research programme that was rolled out in selected London boroughs where low-income homeowners and homes built prior to 1945 in poor condition are most concentrated.

The Project

LRS required a community research specialist to help them gain a deeper understanding of the methods they could use to best reach low-income, older homeowners and the issues they faced with home repairs, mobility adaptations and other improvements. The insight from this research was needed to allow LRS to continue to refine and develop the Healthy Homes, Healthy Lives program.

Our Approach

Mobilise designed research that was rolled out to selected London boroughs where low-income homeowners and homes built prior to 1945 in poor condition are most concentrated. We built local partnerships with voluntary sector organisations in each borough, engaged with older homeowners and their intermediaries – families, carers, and those who support them. We created homeowner engagement events where we conducted focus groups and surveys to collect data and in-depth knowledge of their housing issues.

Impact

Mobilise provided LRS with the research outcomes in each borough, providing analysis of the feedback and insights gained. This enabled the organisation to develop a stronger understanding of the issues in each area and adapt their approach. In addition, having developed partnerships with voluntary sector organisations in each borough, LRS was then well positioned and able to develop those relationships going forward.
