The West Hendon estate is a significant housing regeneration scheme adjacent to the North Circular Road and the Welsh Harp Reservoir in the London Borough of Barnet. Partners Barratt, Barnet Homes, and Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing are delivering a major programme of estate regeneration demolishing approximately 650 homes and building 2,000 new ones in a mix of private and affordable accommodation.
The Project
Alongside the physical changes, the Partnership Board wished to deliver on the social and community development strand of the programme. With this in mind, Mobilise, working with Paul Bragman CRC were appointed to work with partners and the local community to develop a Neighbourhood Investment Strategy (NIS) as part of the regeneration scheme..
Our Approach
Mobilise led on stakeholder and resident engagement, and a ‘Community Researcher’ model where community members were involved in the delivery of resident research about priorities for West Hendon. A thorough analysis of local data sets and a community asset mapping exercise was also undertaken. A series of workshops were held to test the research findings and the Partnership Board and stakeholders were supported to develop their vision and objectives for the NIS; local partners were also engaged in exploring their views on what is needed and how their plans aligned.
Impact
Building on all of this work, a Neighbourhood Investment Plan was developed for West Hendon that guided social investment from the regeneration programme in the areas and themes most relevant to the community.
